THE EVENT
The Staten Island Botanical Garden was planning the Gala Inaugural Dinner to celebrate the Grand Opening Reception Dinner of the first Chinese Scholar's Garden in the United States.  Dignitaries from China, the United States and many other countries were the anticipated guests.

Traditional Chinese gardens go back almost 2,000 years to the Han Dynasty although most Scholar's Gardens date back to the more recent Ming and Qing dynasties.  A Scholar's Garden would have been built by a scholar or an administrator retiring from the emperor's court as an enclosed private garden associated with a house which, in turn without its garden, would not have been considered whole.  The enjoyment of the garden is contemplative and sensual and comes from making the most out of the experiences of everyday life, as such, architectural elements are always a part of a Scholar's Garden.

EXPECTATIONS
The Electronic Pencil was asked to design and produce combination Programs and Menu Cards for the Inaugural Dinner.  We were asked to create a design that was Chinese in style, color and font choice.  The logo of the New York Chinese Scholar's Garden was to figure prominently as well.

PROJECT DESIGN
Our designer Gwen Ware, studied the concept of the Scholar's Garden, early forms of letters, and color choices for celebrations in preparation to design this project.

CHALLENGES
This project was conducted long distance.  Communication, designs, decisions  and approvals were communicated back and forth through through a special hidden client webpage on our site.

The Electronic Pencil custom designed and handcrafted the following item for the Inaugural Dinner:
